How to be healthy in the age of convenient excess?

Health can be a complicated topic. Nowadays it seems to be considered the absence of sickness. Problem with that is it’s a low, vague bar. Is sickness just when we are suffering cold and flu symptoms or does it also cover mental health challenges and debilitating pain? 


In Taoism health is achieved by curating a state of optimal harmony for the entire mind, heart and body connection. This way the potential for falling all the way down into sickness is much less likely. 


Not feeling sick is only a neutral point. If we only shoot for neutral sickness and discomfort will always be lurking. 


When we feel full of energy our mental state is powerful, productive and positive, resourceful and optimistic. Inspired for what possibilities may eventuate. When we have meaning and purpose we strive to create something amazing and of benefit to ourselves or others. When depressed it is quite the opposite, we just want to hide away and do the bare minimum. 


Health is how well we are functioning. If my body and mind are operating perfectly but suddenly experience an emotional trauma like a break up or death of a loved one, my mind is immediately influenced. Often becoming turbulent with negativity relative to before the event. 


This will affect the body, people tend to hold postures associated with their psychological state. Low self worth or confidence might have someone slouching with forward head posture more for example while a proud chest head held high when feeling at full force. 


The fact is our emotions influence our body and mind. Ever noticed leading up to a stimulating conversation, sometimes when practicing what  to say I’ll notice my stomach area tensing up or having nervousness. Same as the way some will lightly shrug their shoulders sometimes when feeling nervous, under confident or just cold. 

Mental health is a powerful influence on us. People take their own life because they can no longer handle being trapped with their own thoughts. 


Although we can’t see ideas, they are more powerful than we realize. 


That’s why in this time of unlimited excess it can be difficult to feel a sense of balance. No matter what our experience and feeling changes like the wind making it hard to remain content for long. 

This is especially true without having a strong centre. If we have no clear, consistent main value to prioritize above the rest of the external noise we are lost by default. Building a physical centre gives us a priority. A foundational focus no matter what craziness life throws at us. Every day maintain that centre and reinforce that foundation to observe feelings and thoughts. 


With time and concentration this discipline gradually builds an emotional and mental centre. Lining the intention to be centred and in harmony up within more of our chakra energy so we aren’t in contradiction within ourselves saves power. 


Taking care of the body makes everything better. It’s proof that I deeply value my ability to move and enjoy life. Whatever we value we become. Some people value career and wealth and so dedicate and achieve plenty of that but by forgetting to invest in learning to maintain their body, often they have the wealth but can’t move properly to enjoy life with it.


After years of developing and learning I’m finally figuring out how to guide my energy towards a perfect system. 

This goal to remain tension free with a strong, straight energy centreline will encourage my mind to be calm and productive instead of rattled and irrational. I need this to enter society.


Building and caring for the body is part of awakening our subconsciousness.


Understanding all the energy influencing us from our own baseline sexual desires to our urge to be arrogant or judge those less aware than ourselves as if we were never learning ourselves. 


Suffering is a sign we are unaware of something somewhere. Healthy minds try to observe and solve it while an unhealthy one will ignore or blame something outside themselves. True health begins when we take that power back and focus our intention on what truly matters. 


Life will constantly challenge  and distract us to chase something. It can be easy to get distracted into thinking mortgage payments, bar tabs, jewelry and designer clothes are more of a priority than personal training, organic food, physical therapy or a gym membership. It’s only when our experience becomes negative that we stop and reconsider our choices.


True health is a deep understanding of what we want and the ability to make it happen in reality. Most of us don’t want to create suffering for ourselves, we accidentally end up in it somehow with no clear path out.

When we are truly healthy, at all layers, joy naturally appears. 


Anything other than loving life suggests room for improvement.

Finding joy in the journey and living in the moment takes effort. It seems like people in every country have lived their lives in the future. Thanks for the post!
